Tricks to help you get out of bed earlier

Maybe the best person to tell you tricks on how to get out of bed earlier than you’re body wants to is not someone who has never had a problem with this but rather someone like me who has struggled with it for many years yet has found their own personal solutions. So here, partly to motivate myself for this problem has cropped up in my life again recently, I will share the tricks that have helped me rise out of bed early even when it was so incredibly hard and all I wanted to do was go back to sleep.

Trick #1: Funky, Distance Alarm Clock

This trick only works if you have a playlist of music that makes you want to work and roll! For me, that music is funk and disco, but for you it might be rock or heavy, dark opera. So once you know what songs you’d use, find a way to make them your alarm clock and then put your alarm clock at the far end of the room so that you’re literally forced to get out of bed to turn it off. The effect you hope to have is that by the time you’re standing up to turn off your alarm, you don’t want to go back to bed because the music already has you going and motivated.

This works better, like all the tricks here, if you remind yourself before bed that this is what you’re doing, so that when the moment comes and you’re standing there with your favorite song on in the dark, it’s already too late – there’s no option but to break some funky moves to the disco and get your day started!

Trick #2: A Delayed Coffee Maker

Even if you don’t like coffee, the general concept of this trick can work, so long as you have a favorite morning beverage. For me, that beverage is a steaming hot coffee. And I’m lucky for that because my coffee machine has a “delayed brew” option where, so long as I prep the coffee maker with filter and grain before bed, I can set it to start brewing early in the morning. This works wonders for me because even the smell of coffee gets me going. And so when I’m trying to go back to sleep I can smell the fumes and my mouth starts to water. The excitement of a fresh coffee makes it easier for me to crawl into the kitchen and start my day. If you’re more of a vegetable shake or protein powder kind of person, you can prep these and leave them in the fridge for you to consume in the morning.

Trick #3: Revenge!

This trick is kind of nasty, but it works. Just like how Harry Potter was motivated to do well just to prove Snape wrong, I like to imagine all the people who said I would never amount to anything look shocked when they see how successful I’ve become. By imagining all my doubters being proven wrong, I get a spark of motivation that is powerful enough to get me out of bed. So to make this work for you, try to remember all the people who doubted you and how good it would feel when you get to watch them admit that they were wrong about you. Because you can do this!

The only doubter in this world who really matters is you!
